Representation

Representation is one of the most critical issues facing JSA. It is necessary for every JSA-er to have voice. However, for some chapters, this simply is not a reality, which is why, as Senator, I will fight for the representation of each and every member of JSA.

  1. Cabinet/Leadership Representation

    1. Cabinet Positions

      1. Problem: In the status quo, it is unfortunate to note that large chapters are dominating the positions in Cabinet. In fact, over 60% of Cabinet spots belong to big schools (> 25 active members). This is decreasing the representation among the smaller chapters of JSA, who play an equally important role in the success of this organization.

      2. Solution: I plan to implement mentorship programs, in which members of the “Big 6” will hold an online seminar with Cabinet hopefuls, explaining what they are looking for in an applicant, how to approach the application, and more! While this will assist aspiring JSA-ers across the state, whether they come from big or small chapters, this will certainly benefit students and bolster Cabinet representation from smaller schools, who might not have the mentors or resources so necessary to succeed.

    2. Regional Leadership

      1. Problem: A predicament that many across JSA have noticed is that there are 2 regions in the status quo, PMC and RGC, that are designated by the Governor and the State Legislature as “counties” and not “regions”. This is especially concerning, as per the Texas JSA State Constitution, counties are not able to elect their own Mayor, as an Administrator is to be appointed by the Governor. This doesn’t allow for democratic representation when it comes to the highest-ranking executive in these 2 regions.

      2. Solution: The requirements listed in the Texas JSA State Constitution for a country to be reinstated as a region are quite clear. Primarily, experience a net-positive increase in tax-paying members. Secondly, experience a net-positive growth in tax-paying chapters. And finally, receive a ⅘  majority in both the House of Representatives and the Senate. As your Senator, I will work individually with each and every Chapter President to encourage growth throughout every school in our region. Additionally, I will work directly with my colleagues in the Senate and House of Representatives to garner support for the reinstatement of our PMC as a region.

  2. Voting

    1. Problem: Simply put, some people cannot attend Spring State to vote for the candidates that they wish to get elected because of a conflict. We should not isolate these voters.

    2. Solution: I will work to create an online voting system that will be securely encrypted to ensure that all members of JSA can have a voice in our leadership.
